Guru
Smt. Daya Ravi
Smt. Daya Ravi established the Natraj School of Indian Dance in 1996 as its founder, director, and choreographer and has been teaching Bharatanatyam theory and practice lessons at her dance studio in Boyds, MD. Daya learnt this art from Kalaimamani Smt. Krishnakumari Narendran (Pandanalloor style) and Acharya Guru Sri. Udupi Lakshminarayanan (Kanchipuram style). She has intertwined the subtle nuances of both the styles in all her choreographies. Daya believes that art has a purpose. Hence, every year NSID donates its proceeds from its annual day to charities. In 1980, Daya Ravi acted in the children’s dance movie “Purandaradasar” and received the best child artist award from the state of Tamil Nadu. She is certified in both theory and practical concepts of Indian Music and Dance. Since childhood she has been traveling worldwide to perform at prestigious venues.
